Whose Twin?

Vibrant Films had the following to say:

A film about the nasty effects of Ricin poisoning, paying homage to a familiar story.

The film took about six months to complete from start to finish and involved anywhere between 10 and 20 people, two different locations and Cluedo, the Shetland pony.

I’m not sure which is my favourite part of this: “Told you so,” “Here comes a handsome prince. Handy.”, or what I’m reasonably confident is the first horse to appear in SciCast. It’s such a lush and beautifully put-together film, it’s rather hard to choose.

Vibrant Films have a tradition of pushing the boundaries for SciCast, delivering ever-higher production values. Last year their contribution was the astonishing animation The God Particle, and the year before the equally outstanding Refraction. So we expected great things from them this year, and they haven’t disappointed.

If I’m being picky, the thing the team need to watch is the balance between film-making and science. Here, for example, I’ve no problem with Snow White being affected instantly by a toxin that takes hours to kill — pratfalls are always funny, after all — but if she didn’t swallow the apple, why was she affected in the first place? OK, so fairy-tale logic applies, and that’s fine… or is it? When so much care has been taken over the casting, filming, and editing, I can’t help but be just a teensy bit disappointed that the team didn’t find a better way out of their heroine’s predicament.

It’s a terrific film. But is it a terrific SciCast film? Leave your thoughts in the comments, we’ll be interested to hear them.
