A film in two parts: first, explaining the Doppler effect, and second, looking at the resonance of glasses, explaining why the pitch shifts with different levels of liquid in the glass.

I’m not normally a fan of ‘I’m stupid/I’m clever’ double-acts, but it works well here. The big grins and nobody taking it remotely seriously help.

Meanwhile, it’s a shame we struggle to hear what’s being said near the road — mobile phone video camera, I think? — as it’s both written and performed well. The pratfall at the end of that sequence is terrific too, they’re surprisingly hard to do this well, though it’s a pity we only really see the performer’s feet.

The second part of the film makes a valiant attempt to explain something that’s surprisingly complex — how the pitch of a resonating wineglass changes with the amount of liquid it contains. Great script, here.

So: for all its technical limitations, this is a very carefully put-together film. It’s well written, well considered, and well shot — the only weakness, really, is the camera.

I watched this at school and I had no sound so this looked so rubbish to me!

I thought that this video look apsolutely fantastic, such a shame that David fellow ruined the whole thing. The video quality is poor but i thought that the content more than made up for this flaw.
I feel wiser just for seeing this video
