Falling Toast

SciCast was featured in BBC Radio 4’s iPM show on 1st December, and in the interview Jonathan mentioned how much he likes this film about toast landing butter-side down.

Trouble is, it wasn’t on the site when the interview went out. Well, now it is. Here’s a sneak peek of a not-really-finished version: a ‘rough-cut’, to use the jargon. This is the stage the group managed to reach at the end of their frantic filming day. We’ll be polishing this up a little and adding some music, as per their requests, to smooth it out a little.

But we’ll leave this rough-cut up, so you can compare the ‘rough’ and ‘final’ versions.

I’ll save most of my comments for the final version of this film, but here’s why I like it so much: the explanation for why toast lands butter-side down can be rather subtle and complex. But this film makes it entirely straightforward and reasonable, and does so with a healthy does of personal style.

That’s the key to a great SciCast film, I think: start with good material, then make it yours.
