This began simply enough, as an attempt to take pictures with a mobile phone camera through a variety of different extra lenses, including an old telescope. But what would the team take pictures of?

Somewhere in there, the Rogue Traders thing rather took over, and this is the result. OK, so the experiment got a bit lost – but the result's fun, right? Right?

When you have a very simple experiment in front of you, the temptation is always to add more and more ideas to it. Sometimes the experiment is better left to stand on its own in a simple film, but sometimes that might be dull, and you really are better off piling on the extra stuff. It can be a difficult decision.

The important part is to run with whatever you decide – a finished film is better than no film at all. This group did an excellent job of completing a complex film in their day's work. While the experiment got somewhat lost in there, all credit to them for pulling off an ambitious plan.

Besides, there's nothing stopping somebody else making a film exploring optics and lenses with mobile phones. You really can aim your mobile's camera through a telescope and take extreme telephoto pictures. What else works? Magnifying glasses, sure – and also those fisheye door security peephole things, though they're fiddly to see through. Can you find anything else that works?
