Grow Your Own Body Parts

If you damage the cartilage in your joints it will never get better on its own. This film describes how to repair damaged cartilage using your own cells. It involves growing living cells outside the body and some complex surgery. We therefore don't advice you try this unless you are properly qualified!

If you'd like to know more about the procedure, look up 'autologous chondrocyte implantation.' Autologous - from yourself. Chondrocyte - cartilage cell.

SciCast's first animation! Good use of stop-motion techniques to help explain what could otherwise be a complex medical procedure. We've more animation films coming, and watch out for some notes in the Film School.

Meanwhile, I like this film. It's very matter-of-fact about some astonishing technology, and it's a terrific example of academic researchers going out and showing the importance of what they do to school students.
